Meet Reverend Tana
Reverend Tana McDonald was born in Redding, California into a large and loving family.  1st UMC Redding is her home church.  She is happily married to Reverend Don Lee, currently serving the thriving Sierra Pines UMC, Grass Valley. Don is also President of Hospitality House; the Welcome Center for the Nevada County shelter ministry is located at GVUMC.

Tana’s educational road followed multiple pathways.  She holds three undergraduate degrees: Business Administration, Liberal Arts and Psychology; two Master Degrees: 3-year MA in Pastoral Care and Counseling and Master of Divinity from the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley.

On the professional front, Tana successfully ran businesses for over thirty years, as well as served in various community and church leadership roles.  Her call into deeper religious service came initially out of the community at 1st UMC Redding.  Serving as the senior chaplain at Redding Medical Center sealed the lifetime vow of service to the glad and gleeful and the suffering and afflicted of God’s great Creation.

Pastor Tana’s emphasis in ministry is empowering, encouraging and equipping laity to listen to and respond to their own unique call from God.  She is social justice oriented, an environmentalist, and mission and ministry centered

In the community she currently serves on Interfaith Nevada County, a local group of religious leaders.  Other Interfaith work includes being active in Campus Ministry at CAL Berkeley, Wesley Foundation.  Wesley House opens fall 2010 with Interfaith student housing, a new model for Campus Ministry.

International mission work includes Africa University, Zimbabwe and numerous trips to Palestine and Israel beginning in 1970.  In 2007/2008 Tana led a Volunteer in Mission trip to Palestine to assess Bethlehem, Palestine for the General Board of Global Ministry to create more official VIM sites there.  Her last VIM trip to Palestine was January 2010.

She is delighted to have the good fortune of being pastor at Grass Valley UMC and warmly invites you to come to meet her and the wonderful congregation at the oldest church in Grass Valley.
