Church Activities

There is a Contemplative Prayer group that meets each Wednesday afternoon at 4:45pm in Room D, Grass Valley United Methodist Church. All are welcome to this 45 minutes of quiet, devotional readings and sharing. For more information contact Rob Cairns at 265-0128 or Judith Pruess-Mellow at 274-3354.

The United Methodist Men's organization meets monthly on the third Saturday at 7:30 AM for coffee and 8:00 AM  for breakfast and fellowship.  The program each month focuses on various outreach ministries of the church.  The group's aim is to be service centered.  For further information, please contact Bob Briel, 274-7855.

Our Church supports several local outreach ministries, including the Interfaith Food Ministries, Emergency Assistance Coalition,  Manzanita Inn and Last Friday Supper which provides a free hot dinner-time meal on the second and last Fridays of each month at 5:30 PM.  Lunch at the Crossroads has begun serving a free luncheon meal on the second Friday of each month at 11:45 AM.  Hospitality House is located at 230 S. Church Street in our former parsonage.  It serves as an intake center for homeless individuals to provide a nomadic shelter in participating church facilities between October and April each year.  Included is a hot evening meal and a light breakfast.  Mail services and referrals are provided for guests of Hospitality House.

Several tenant groups also meet at the church on a regular basis, including  Peripheral Neuropathy Support Group, Girl Scouts, Pine Tree Quilt Guild workshops, Blood Bank, Alcoholics Anonymous.

The Habitat for Humanity office is located in our main office building.

Since its inception in September 2002, the Prayers and Squares ministry has made over 30 quilts
for our folks who are ill and/or in need of special prayers.  The recipients are chosen, quilts made
and threaded.  On Sundays, for every knot tied a prayer is said for that person.

The group meets every Friday morning and all are welcome to join this worthwhile ministry.
